About the artist:
Satta Hashem was born in Buhriz, Diyala (Iraq) near one of the oldest
cities of ancient Mesopotamia, Tel Asmar. He lived and studied in
Algeria and Russia, and later moved to Sweden. He now lives in
Leicester, England. His work has been exhibited in many countries—see
his website for details. Hashem is also a mural painter. |
About this work:
Inspired by ancient Mesopotamian palace reliefs and decorative art,
‘Freedom No 1’ is part of a series of drawings and paintings created in
2007 to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and hope for a
better life. |
